“In the last few years, the purchasing trend towards performance-oriented products has changed significantly. Now, energy efficiency is a highly propagated concept and people are becoming aware of its importance from the last few years. They are looking to have more energy efficient products and looking for star ratings as one of their prime criteria. It is a game changer in the market while purchasing patterns are pushing manufacturers towards energy saving appliances.“
“After lights, Ceiling Fans are the most used home consumer products in India. Thus, it is important that we should aggressively work on making energy saving ceiling fans. That has inspired me to work for BLDC ceiling fans. There are multiple benefits of BLDC fans over traditional induction motor fans while your electricity bill reduces by 70% at full speed and can go as far as 1200% at lower speeds” told Mohit who is a manufacturer of Jupiter fans.
Post covid-19 outbreak, the world is facing another key challenge in the form of global energy crisis due to shortage of coal and natural gas. The October month itself reported several incidents of energy crisis across the world. The acute shortage of fossil fuels and even renewable energy resources has not met demand yet, thus, the focus of the world has shifted to energy saving products.
Looking at the amount of carbon footprints by burning fossil fuels or by making high energy consumption products affecting the environment and increasing global warming, it is necessary that energy efficient product manufacturing should be part of climate action goals.
“The East Asian countries, especially China, have created their capability over a period of time to be innovators in almost every field. However, many Indian companies are coming up with innovation in products at present. Now, if I talk about BLDC motors or for that matter any innovative product, East Asian countries are having upper hand majorly in two segments.
Firstly, India does not have electronics chip level manufacturing. The strong innovation in home appliances needs a strong hold in electronics manufacturing. We have complete dependency on components and chips from other countries. It is a big hindrance in the growth path of innovative home appliances in India.
Secondly, the lack of magnets in India is another big issue. Magnet is one of the most important components in BLDC motor manufacturing and the largest reserve for it is held by China. Recently, everyone is facing huge challenges to get any component from East Asian countries. This has created a huge demand-supply gap and production has been hurt”.
Despite such a challenging ecosystem, Jupiter BLDC ceiling fans are manufactured in aesthetic and high performance features. Along with energy efficiency, there is no heat generated while running. So, they have better product-life while offering better controls & functionalities with remote/app control.
“We faced a lot of trouble developing the product as this product needed components which were either not available in India or complete fresh development had to be done. Electronics manufacturers in India are quiteincompetent to manufacture.”
According to Mohit, the government should work on multiple things to create a healthy ecosystem for efficient appliances manufacturing in India.
“Firstly, the government should bring plans to make our country a tax haven for manufacturers, focusing on MSME industries. Currently, industry and policies are working at different stages and thus industry is suffering. Looking at the current Covid situation, sentiments towards East Asian countries are changing, however we are not able to utilize this big opportunity as a lot of SMEs have gone out of business. Policy makers should look into this situation.
Secondly, policy makers should focus on rewarding innovations and promoting them.
Thirdly, making star ratings mandatory for all home appliances. This will push the players in the market to find innovative ways to make energy efficient products
Fourthly, the government should start pushing for BLDC products like it did for LED lights. Help from the government has boomed the industry and right now LEDs can be seen into the hinterlands of India. Similar kind of push is required for other products as well including BLDC ceiling fan”
Team Jupiter is ready to share their technical expertise to various other manufacturers to give BLDC fans a boost in India. As part of their future plans, they are looking to expand with brand stores across multiple cities.
“We are looking to provide our coming generations a greener and cleaner environment to live in,” he concluded.
The Inverter Drive Technology, BLDC driven Jupiter fans are bringing new hopes for energy efficient appliances manufacturing for saving power and thus supporting green recovery.
